Impossible Game Boy DMG LCD Screen Swap - Desoldering the LCD from the PCB

6/13/2015

In this video I attempt to remove and replace a Gameboy screen by desoldering it from the PCB w/o damaging it and then soldering it back in place.

This could make backlight mods easier to do and would allow salvaging the DMG screen for spare parts if doing a Game Boy pocket to DMG screen mod.

Game Boy DMG Replacement Shell Review and Install

You can buy this shell from lee_chan1985 on ebay for $15 delivered to the US - http://ebay.to/1GSdMJO

tl;dw- I had mixed success with this shell. The A/B buttons did not sit at the right height and I had to do some modifications to the shell to get them to work. However, in general this is a nice quality replacement shell and it may be worth buying.

Game Boy Advance GBA LED Mod

11/24/2014

This impromptu video shows removing the GBA's 0603 SMD power LED with a soldering iron only, and with hot air. I had some trouble figuring out how to orient the LED, so unfortunately I won't be much help there. After some trial and error and a few bloopers, I was able to get the new LED working.

While an attempt at boiling the 72-Pin connector did improve things with this NES, it didn't restore it to 100% functionality.  I attempted a second boil, cleaned some games, and end up re-bending the connector pins. Tools used in this video:
